Decided to check out this place as my dad, from California, is a vegan and I wanted him to have a positive experience with a meal here in Grand Rapids. Absolutely it turned out to be a great choice for a meal. Hands down this restaurant, a truly mix of Mediterranean cuisines from Greek to Lebanese was a culinary delight of freshness and flavor. Now a bit of a distraction that should be noted is that the service time is slow. The waiter seemed a bit new and there was a bit of a language barrier. Also, the time it took for the food to be prepared is longer than average. It seems each table's meal is custom made by the sole chef in the kitchen and prepared one table at a time. The payoff is that you can taste the difference. The chef pours all his skills into your meal with no other distractions and it shows in terms of presentation and flavor. So if you want quick delivery of food after your order may want to go somewhere else. But if you have some patience, it is will be worth it. The signature house salad with our entrees was a highlight. Do not miss this dish. The appetizers of one grape leaf, a samosa, and one falafel topped with tahini was tasty. I am not a fan of the Greek grape leaf dish but this one was the best one I ever had. Not cold and sour but room temperature with a slight tang. The other dishes from the pita bread, hummus, baba ghanouj, and a "tofu kabob" and saffron rice along with the gyro and chicken meat I had all were distinct in flavor explosions that gave at least to me the sensation of Mediterranean uniqueness. It a word: yummy. Now the prices are not cheap. But the quality shines through. And I would like to have had traditional Mediterranean music playing to help build the ambience, but my taste buds were so happy that it over ridded my ear drums. So I plan to go back again, I will plan for some extra time for food prep, listen to some Middle Eastern mood music in the car prior on Pandora and fully expect to have a feast of Mediterranean culinary loveliness.

I hesitate to review insofar as I fear that this quaint and fabulous restaurant runs the risk of becoming overly popular and then a victim of its own success. It is wonderful because it is small and intimate, to say nothing of serving delicious food by smiling, competent and personable waitstaff ( thank you Lauren). The veggie sampler is reasonably priced and features the best Falafel this side of Lebanon. Wish I knew the recipe for the House Salad. Delicious! The restaurant only seats about 20 people, so a visit during peak times might entail a wait...

My husband and I ate at Raad's for the second time today. It was superb! Easily the best Medt. food I've had in the Grand Rapids/Muskegon area.

A great Mediterranean Grill place for a decent price. They have quickly become known for their house salad which involves lentils, radishes, tomatoes, quinoa, as well as several others, absolutely no lettuce. Their hummus is amazing and comes in a generous portion. If you haven't experienced this type of food, this is a perfect place to start!

Worst Arabic food I have ever had (and I really love Arabic food). Now I understand why the place is always empty. The grape leaves were mushy and tasteless and the falafel was hard and dry. And the falafel was served with Greek tatziki sauce, which is just plain weird. The portions (appetizer platter for two) were ridiculously small and it was really overpriced. A single vegetarian plate at Sammy's is $9 and includes more food than this, which is $20. The owner came out to the table and was very rude when I asked why he served tatziki sauce with the falafel instead of tahini sauce and accused me of trying to tell him "how to cook his food." Not only was the food lousy, the service was SO SLOW. We waited and waited and finally the server came out with a tiny plate with TWO grape leaves on it. Ten minutes later he came out with some hummus. Every tiny plate came out one at a time. I first ordered the beef and lamb shwarma and was told there would be a 30 minute wait for it, which is crazy, because shwarma is supposed to be cooking on a spit and all you have to do is cut pieces off from it. I will never go back to this place with it's bad over-priced food, bad service, and rude owner. I predict it will go out of business before too long. There is a reason why it is always empty . . .

I don't normally write reviews but I had to for this place! The man working was so nice and the food was beyond amazing. My falafel wrap was delicious. Decent price for a large amount of food.

Darling place. Insanely good food. Very clean. Very friendly service. The owner greets all tables with well-deserved pride. Raad's Salad will blow your mind--one of the best, most interesting salads I have ever tasted! Reasonable prices for delicious, very homemade, fresh food. HIGHLY recommend.

I have been here a few times and am always drooling for the house salad! They are always making improvements, like removing the tv and adding a bar-like seating area against the front window. The last time I was there though, the waitress must have been new, or I surely hope she was as that's the only excuse for such poor service. She was nice but very short, she asked my boyfriend what he wanted to order and as he began to answer she just simply walked away... The cook must have called for her or something, he ended up returning to get our orders. She only had the two of us and another couple but seemed to have troubles keeping up. The food is always delicious, I have never had a negative experience with the food! I will always bring people to Raad's it's decently priced, though I think with the improvements the prices have gone up, and the food is consistent.

Without getting into a long, drawn-out saga I'll just say I've never had a more disgusting experience in a restaurant. My boyfriend and I came in for lunch on a Saturday, ordered two separate menu items, and began to enjoy them when they arrived. After a new bites, I noticed a dead fly on my plate, covered in sauce, which seemed to have fallen out of my sandwich. Without being accusatory, I sent my meal back. I had lost my appetite. To be sure, my boyfriend checked his food to also find a dead fly in his food right where he had just taken a bite. We left immediately. The food tasted fine, but I don't enjoy eating dead flies.

Food was good, I'd recommend the food and I am Lebanese so I felt it met my expectations the food will likely meet yours. The owner was a bit too intense, he hovered over the table and made too much small talk. He also smelled like he needed a shower- not pleasant while eating. I think the price point might be too high for the food offered. Shawarma sandwhich I ate was $15, I'd say the real value is more like 10-12. Portion size was decent. I wish the owner would read this and realize that no one wants too much chit chat, the lighting needs to be lowered to create more ambiance, the wall next to us needed to be painted after they plastered it, and he NEEDS To shower every day if he is in food service.

I tried ordering takeout around 1pm on a Wednesday and I was on hold for over 10 minutes and decided to order elsewhere. Unacceptable when it comes to takeout.

It's some of the best Mediterranean food I've had. The owner is real nice and helpful in selecting your order. There are some original creations, like the awesome house salad, along with all the traditional dishes.

It's no secret that Lebanese cuisine can be spectacular when done right. And at Raad's it's REALLY done right. While many of the hipster joints in the Cherry-Diamond area get pretty crowded, Raad's was nearly empty on the two nights we dined there on a recent trip to GR. I think the subtlety of their signage is one reason...we probably would have driven right by had we not been looking for the address. My wife and I often make a meal of appetizers when we're at middle eastern restaurants, and Raad's is a perfect place to do this. The "Garlic Dip" with an egg white base is incredible--you'd swear it was a full-cream dip until it finishes so light on the palate. And the Baba Ghanouj is among the very the best I've tasted...anywhere. Do NOT miss what Raad's calls "Fava Bean" (Ful Medames by its real name). Get it in whatever form you choose...as an entree along with some sides or save some money by ordering it as a wrap, which is another WOW! Top off your meal with a traditional Lebanese desert (yum) or with a coconut-based "ice cream" from the Furniture City Creamery next door, and even the most discriminating foodie will be very happy and satisfied.

Wish there was a 0 star review because that's what this place deserves. Food took forever to come out and was lukewarm. Definitely heard the microwaves going in the back. Worst mid eastern food I've ever had.

  • Ryan M.

The service was excellent and our waitress was very helpful for me being a first timer. The food was fantastic. I ordered the hummus appetizer and a falafel wrap. I ordered additional food for take out to eat later that day. We happened to be there during the lunch special too so the price couldn't be beat.

Amazing food and service! The house salad is so good - next time it's my main dish! Very different - tabouli meets bulgar meets pita chips plus FLAVOR, not oil or salt. Unique and a real standalone dish. While everything is good, Raad's shines on the specialty dishes. My husband's chicken "jambalaya" was very flavorful! Sides of hummus and saffron rice are made in house and packed full of herbs. Will be back very soon!

This is a great little spot to get some delicious food. The gentleman in charge helped us order and select gluten free options. The Raad's salad is amazing!

I'm from Detroit so am very particular when it comes to this type of food. I'll have to say, this is different, this is excellent. The owner told me to get the raad salad. Its phenomenal Its like a mix between tabouli and ffatoosh, with lentil beans radishes and something sweet in it. The wraps are saucy, very different, very very good.

  • Danna G.

Enjoyable food, tasted good. Overall service, atmosphere and presentation was awkward and not aligned with the price of the food. After we left we all agreed we didn't feel like we had had a $70.00 dining experience (3 of us).

i have never seen like this stupdid owner, i advice all people whom want to enjoy their service not to go to this place. when i had an order i found some bugs in the plate i've got and when i talked to the owner he told me i will replace it for you for free, when i told him i am enough i dont need anything and i wanna leave because i don't trust get your food, in that time he said well i cant leave you go till you pay your check out and he said before that i will replace the plate for free, when i asked him you said that he answered silly and said this is how its sir i told him alright i will call 911 and health department to see whats gonna happen in that he siad no no sir just dont worry about the check you are free to go.

This place is great! Owner is nice too. We had the meat dinner sampler plate. We'd come here just for the house salad.

  • Rebecca M.

Wow. How have I not heard of this place before!! My mom and I split the Veggie Sampler. It was more than enough food for both of us!! The house salad was my favorite thing. Unlike any salad I've had at a Mediterranean restaurant. I'll go back just to eat that!! The garlic dip was delicious, as was the grilled tofu with rice. We will definitely be back to have my vegan sisters try it!

    (5)
  • Dovie C.

I loved everything I ordered! My boyfriend and I ate there for the first time last night and we will definitely be back. I'm a vegan and they have a wonderful selection of food to choose from so you're not limited to a salad :)

Amazing falafel wrap. Falafel was freshly made and the wrap was juicy with thaini sauce and salads.Hummus was outstanding. I've had hummus in so many places, and every time its a little too sour or something is slightly off, but Raad's hummus was top notch. The only issue I see here is the nondescript location (if it weren't for yelp, I wouldn't have gone there), I guess they should brighten up the exterior a little and the parking is challenging, but I guess that is the case for every other joint in this neighborhood. For the rest this is a great place.I'll be back for more.

  • Garima K.

Absolutely delicious food. You can get middle eastern food anywhere, but not with so much uniqueness and flavor. Their falafel and vegan burger wraps are out of this world.

  • Lindsay H.

Best Mediterranean food I've had, hands down. I had the house salad and grape leaves. The house salad was addicting! It's not like a traditional salad with lettuce and veggies--it's almost their version of tabbouleh. Amazing. My husband had the gyro, which came with curry rice (wonderful) and hummus (even better). To top everything off, the staff was so grateful to have us. I'm pretty sure the owner is also the one who made our food, which was a pretty cool experience. Please give this place a try!

The best Hummus with lame I have ever eat. Also the salad is very very Good. He also give us the best yellow rice with Kofta lame. I would love to come here again and again.

Absolutely fantastic food. The service and atmosphere are top notch. Be aware, they are a bit pricier than your average Mediterranean restaurant. Lunch for 2 including a pop was almost $40 without the tip. I will definitely be going again.

Amazing flavors! So glad this is here. Great service. Great atmosphere. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Was here for vacation and visited Raad on our last night, and so glad we did. Food was unpretentious and delicious. The house salad special is the BEST I've had. I didn't expect something new, different and yummy! The owner was proactively accommodating. Next time I visit will definitely eat here again! Do the locals know they have a gem of a place here?

This restaurant stands alone within the sea of pretension that has become Cherry St. in the past few years. It has the most unique Mediterranean food I've ever had- all the dishes you expect, but with an original spin on it all. The Raad's salad was maybe the best salad I've had anywhere, and the vegetarian jambalaya was insanely good. Try a sampler platter, so you can appreciate their broad palate. More expensive then most Mediterranean places, but we'll certainly be back!

I was sent a threatening personal message from the owner because he didn't like my review. This guy is creepy and will be reported.

Delicious food. Order spicy! Tastes much better, or maybe there was just a different chef in the kitchen the second time I visited. I recommend the Lamb & Beef Jambalaya spicy, and their Raad's House Salad is delicious and different from what you may be thinking. Good service and a nice, small atmosphere. We ordered house salad, hummus with lamb, grilled chicken with rice, the best!! I tried many mediterranean cuisines, but this one was marvelous.

That house salad made my day! Flavorful, zesty, refreshing. The other food was also quite tasty and well-prepared, however my world was rocked by the house salad! If Grand Rapids were much closed, I could have the salad on a regular basis. Darn!

We stopped here by chance because brewery vivant was too busy. This food was great and the wait staff explained the menu items to us. We ordered the sampler platter appetizer. They lose at least 1 star for no alcohol, especially since we came on a Saturday evening.

Best gyro of my life! (and I've had them in several major cities and abroad) Their tahini sauce is perfection and they're extremely friendly. Great addition to GR!

  • Allison M.

Yes! Another great addition to Cherry St. We tried it for the first time today for lunch. It was empty at 2pm, but that was fine with us. We started with the garlic dip, and let me say, it is the best garlic dip my husband and I have ever tried. My gyro rap was perfectly seasoned. My husband's meal came with hummus, and it was made perfectly. It will definitely be a lunch spot for us (they do not serve alcohol, a dinner "must have"). Please check this place out so that our community can keep this restaurant alive.

I keep bringing new people here and everyone loves it. Happy to say they have vegan options. Raad's house salad is so delicious. One of my favorite dishes of all time.

  • Andrew K.

Ashtin is the best. I have been going to his Mediterranean Grill since the 28th St. location and while customer service can be slow at times, it is only because he wants only the highest quality food to be served. The hummus here is the best I have ever had, and I would highly recommend the spicy large, lamb gyro if you are unsure what to get.

  • Mindy N.

Raad's is a really great addition to the ethnic cuisine options in Grand Rapids! Their house salad is absolutely worth getting -- I would make a meal just out of that! I had the baba ganoush and it was delicious. I liked how customizable their menu was (wrap or plated, small or large portions). The service was top-notch. I can't wait to go back!

  • Sybil S.

My boyfriend and I stopped in to the restaurant b/c we received a flyer at our nearby residence notifying us of their menu and delivery services (as well as coupons). We LOVE Mediterranean food, so we gave it a shot. The waitress must have been new, she was VERY confused about their menu, and we had to reiterate our requests many times, BUT when the food arrived it was SO delicious. I think the owner/chef realized the waitress was new/hassle, so he came out and spoke to us and asked us how the food was. Very nice man. We are patient people, so her mistakes weren't a big deal, and I'm sure things have improved with waitstaff since. I had the Falafel Wrap w/ hummus, and my boyfriend had the spicy chicken shawarma, and he loved the flavor and moistness of the chicken. Give it a try! The food is AWESOME!!

  • Maggi O.

This place is so rad! Their house salad is not a leafy thing that you would expect of most, but it's more of a quinoa, lentil, grainy, masterpiece that was seriously like nothing I've had. I could eat it all day and night. They make their felafel to order so it's extremely tasty. I'm finding it hard to write this review without adding a bunch of F-bombs to express just how terrific their food is. To top it off, the service is great. You can tell the waitress was excited for people to try the food, and a guy came out from the back to say hi to each table so I think he was the owner and/or head chef or something. This place is easily the best Mediterranean food I've had in Grand Rapids.

    (5)
  • Aimee S.

Really excellent food, carefully crafted. I had the Vegetarian Sampler and have never had better grape leaves and their house salad is divine. Falafel was also good. Hummus was smooth and rich and luxurious and the baba (which I usally don't enjoy) was also delicious. Can't go wrong with any of the items I tried--and prepare to deeply love those grape leaves.

  • Liz D.

I have dined here twice in the past two weeks and have been disappointed both times. While the food is delicious, be prepared to wait as the service is extremely slow. It took 60 minutes for our appetizers to come out and another 30 minutes after that for our entrees. Requests for more water, napkins, pita bread, etc. had to be repeated multiple times. If you have 2 hours or longer to dine, it is worth it. The food is delicious but it is a bit over priced for the portions. We will not be going back here.

    (3)
  • Josh T.

Average food, horrible service. Took 45 for two gyros and we were the only ones there. I was looking forward to this place but will not be coming back.

  • Marco D.

Just went there for the first time today and it's safe to say that I will be going back as often as I can. This place rocks my socks! The prices are pretty reasonable considering the great amount of food you get. They have a great menu to choose from and the food is absolutely mind blowing. I was actually upset when I was full because I didn't want to stop eating, but now i get left overs! Yipiee! The staff is all very friendly and helpful as well! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

    (5)
  • Andi D.

It was the best Mediterranean food I've ever had! I recommend the falafel wrap, house salad, and hummus.

This is my favorite falafel in GR! I also really enjoyed the house salad it was very unique flavors and delicious! I was disappointed that their garlic dip was not vegan although they are conscious about vegan items on their menu.

  • Jen T.

I've eaten here twice, and both times have been a real disappointment. The food is okay, not great, and really overpriced. The ordering options are a little baffling. The first time I ate there, a person I'm guessing is the owner came over to let me know that the plate I ordered was not a great deal and explained how I should order next time. This was pretty strange, because the plate I ordered was on the menu; it's not like I came up with the order on my own. If it's a poor choice, don't offer it! They'd been open a month but still couldn't accept credit cards and had no signs or anything saying so, so we didn't discover this until we needed to pay; we had to drive to an ATM and go back to pay. The second time, I got take-out, and the whole experience was a mess. A simple order took 45 minutes, and it turns out that the vegetarian sampler for one is primarily hummus, baba ghanoush, and pita bread. The hummus and pita bread are both lovely, and it's certainly enough food to constitute a meal, but for $13, it's a pretty underwhelming meal. The same person was in the kitchen that night, and he was pretty rude to the woman working the register and to me, both on the phone and when I went to pick up my food. I won't be back.
